Hello Northmead Families!

I am so happy to be starting my second year with the Northmead family! I don't think any of us could have foreseen how last year would end! Moving into the 2020-2021 school year I would like to say how much I appreciate your welcome and how deeply I look forward to meeting more of you and building relationships in our community.

As we begin our year with Distance Learning I want to assure you that we are here for you. You can make an appointment any time you'd like to meet and discuss how things are going. You are also welcome to email if that is an easier means of communication with your work schedule.  This year, more than ever, it will be imperative that we are working together to support our Cubs. Please encourage your child to message their teacher (or if they child is too young please do so for them) to ask questions and clarification.

Attendance during lessons is important. Students will be working with their teacher and independently all through the day. Being engaged during will help them better understand concepts so your child is successful in reaching their academic goals. We will slowly be easing children into school as we know it is not easy to sit on a computer for a long period of time. As children become more accustomed to working on their computers and attending classes via WebEx we will ask them to stay in lessons longer.

Our first week of school will be dedicated to building relationships and helping the children feel a sense of belonging in their class. The second week will also be largely focused on relationship building and gently easing into their classwork. By the third week the class sessions will be looking much more academic. Taking this slow start will also help children get the hang of attending meetings and building their focus.

Please participate in our online community. As we post challenges and spirit days please encourage them to participate...take their pictures and post them onto our facebook page. Share the pictures other people post with your children to help them feel closer to each other. In this time where we are distant children are missing their friends and we want to create virtual spaces for them to engage with each other.

Together we are going to make this a fantastic school year for our children! Thank you for being so flexible and patient as we all learn our new approach to educating children.

Sincerely,

Tiffany Jones
Principal of Northmead
